News 2009 - October
My Brethren in Christ,
I am happy to update you as to what the good Lord is doing among us. Sierra Leone is gradually growing and developing, and I am happy as a church we have a part in it. We do have a prayer meeting for the president every Monday, he counts on it and that’s what encourages us. His first priority for the nation was electricity.
They have completed the hydro-electric plant that was started years’ ago, the whole country is going to start getting light. The first step to development. His next priority is Agriculture. I have had the opportunity to go around to see some of the farms, big farms. Many countries have come to our aid and have given us a lot of tractors. In September a lot of people from outside came into the country to see the possibility of investing. That will provide jobs for our people.
Tony Blair, your former Prime Minister is very interested in this country. He is also bringing investors and also interested in improving Tourism.
We are happy that we have got a President that has a heart for his people and the Nation. But we must be behind him in Prayer, as that is the motivating factor to progress.
The St. Andrews Maima school pupils took their first public exam for the senior Class 6. They join over ten thousand Children all over the Country. We prepared and sent 7 children this year. They all passed and are now heading for secondary School. This brings us great joy.
I am happy to report that the Inter-Churches football tournament has finally come to an end this past Sunday 30th August 2009. Where we witnessed the final between JESUS IS LORD and EMMANUEL BAPTIST, they are both big churches here. 22 churches started. It was so nice to see churches in fellowship. It was an opportunity we provided for Fellowship and for the young guys to show their talent. Some of them cannot preach, sing in the choir, usher people but then can play for their church. So they feel proud and important. Jesus is lord won again this tournament. This is their second time in 10yrs. Last year it was won by Faith Assemblies of God Church. The finals were postponed three times because we were not able to raise the funds. The Chairman of Sport Life, Herbert George-Williams who happens to be the Lord Mayor of Freetown was out of the country, God used him to help provide the funds for it.
The Sierra Leone National Cricket Team is doing very well. They won the West Africa tournament. They went to South Africa and played against big countries in cricket and we came in as the runners up. Now we are to go to Canada, I have been having Bible studies and prayer meetings with them - for them to realise that the Talent, strength, Ability they have are given to them by God. And God alone can help them to have success.
Sports Life is moving all around the football teams and all other sporting disciplines to have bible studies and prayer meetings with them. The influence of Jesus is spreading around. They Guy who won the highest goal scorer award in the 1st football league - put on under his jersey a T-shirt: “I belong to Jesus”. It was a real Testimony. It was something we planned. I am happy we can do that.
I was not able to come in July as was planned. The ISC which is the international sports coalition the umbrella body has developed training: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. We have five people from here that have gone to Ghana for the Level 2 Training, Alfred, Eric, Victoria, Momoh and Junior Balley. The school is providing their food, accommodation, materials but we are to pay part of the plane fare and $200 as local contribution. The training is for one month. Also two went to the Level 3 Training, Okon and Lansana. Everything was provided but we are to give $200 Local contribution. In fact it has cost us over $2000 so we appreciate any help you can give us.
I have no option but to help with some of the money you sent in the Summer and the rest the Mayor helped us to raise. I refuse to let you know because I did not want to bother you guys with money business all the time. But thank God they have all gone.
I have a ticket to Florida, USA for 28th October to participate in an international sport conference organised by the ISC. I have been appointed as the big region facilitator for Africa. After, I will come to England on about the 10th November so we can meet and have some time with Victoria. But I will have to raise the ticket to come back home.
Pastor Marcarthy and the church in Kono are doing well. The church building in Koidu town is coming up. Thank you for money you provided to help with it.
Mid September I am going to Kono to have a meeting and Training Seminar to bring the pastors together. Please pray for the funds. Schools are on holidays but will be open soon.
Say hello to everyone at St Andrews, Oxford. Thank you very much for all you are doing for us. These are things I will never forget in my life time.
PRAY.......
1. FOR SIERRA LEONE. The Head of state more wisdom to work with his minister and to bring development to the Nation.
2. For the sports life guys studying in Ghana and South Africa.
3. Pray for the work with the Clubs. That God will touch them and that they will understand the message of Christ.
4. For me as I put things together to travel to America and England.
5. As I operate in my new role as the Facilitator for Africa. I have started contact with them.
6. We want to get a camp this year, for God to provide the funds as we were not able to have it last year. The Children are saving.
